Truckee's Chinatowns Recognition

On April 3, 2023, Truckee-Donner Historical Society (TDHS) submitted an Application for Registration of Historical Landmark to the Nevada County Historical Landmarks Commission (NCHLC) for recognition of Truckee's Chinatowns. This application was unanimously approved at the NCHLC meeting on April 21. The Nevada County Board of Supervisors met on June 13, 2023 and approved the application for landmark status for Truckee's Chinatowns.  See this June 16, 2023 Sierra Sun excerpt article. The Board of Supervisors signed Resolution 23-282 attesting to the landmark recognition - much as they had done for the McGlashan Butterfly Collection at the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District.

Here is a link to the supporting documentation regarding Truckee's Chinatowns landmarking application.

Sincere thanks go to the authors of this Application, Chaun Mortier, Greg Zirbel, Barbara Czerwinski, and Heidi Sproat who have spent years and countless hours exploring any means of information available. Additionally, as the TDHS Map Collection is in the process of being digitized, a few early Truckee maps have shed additional light on the research done.
