Truckee Donner Historical Society was founded July 24, 1968 to preserve the history of the Truckee - Donner area. Besides maintaining the historic Joseph Research Cabin (the Gateway Cabin), the Society is also responsible for operating the Old Jail Museum which was built in 1875. The Society is also the steward for the Community Memorial Garden including the Memorial Arch behind the Old Jail Museum, the Donner Cross, and Schaffer Cemetery.
The Nevada County Landmarks Commission issued a video about just some of the landmarks in Nevada County. Our own Memorial Arch behind the Old Jail Museum is one of the landmarks. Please see this short video just released in August 2017 about some of these Nevada County landmarks. Published by the Nevada County Historical Landmarks Commission.
