UPDATE 7/21/2021:  According to the procedures for granting National Historic status, the Truckee Veterans Memorial Building and Rocking Stone Tower have now been officially approved as a listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
***********************************************************
Well, we did it!  FINALLY!
To Our Vets Hall and Rocking Stone Tower Supporters:
On Friday, April 30, 2021, the California State Historical Resources Commission (SHRC) heard the Truckee Veterans Memorial Building and Rocking Stone Tower National Park Service 10-900 Application for National Historic status.  The SHRC based their review on this draft of the Application, available at this link, and each of the reviewing commissioners voted on whether to approve the designation or not.
The vote was a resounding 5-0-0 in favor of approval.
Due to the dedication of the preparers, and the unwavering support of our Truckee community, twenty-three (23) Letters of Support were received by the SHRC urging such historic approval for Vets Hall and Rocking Stone Tower.
To all those who took the time to submit a Letter of Support to the SHRC, we are sincerely grateful for your efforts.
In addition to meeting all the integrity criteria required, we are convinced that these Letters of Support helped to persuade the SHRC members that this site is worthy of such historic designation.
The process continues as we wait out the mandatory 45 days for the "Keeper" / State / Federal Agency Certification to actually approve the NPS 10-900 Application and have it published in the Federal Register.
For specific details, please see 36 CFR Part 60.
At some future point, the actual April 30 hearing will be posted at the SHRC Meeting website, available at this link.  The time stamp to watch and listen to the less than 5 minute presentation for Vets Hall and the tower should be available at approximately the 11:06 am time stamp.
Again, on behalf of the Truckee-Donner Historical Society and the application submitters, we sincerely thank you for your continued efforts to save and honor Vets Hall and the Tower for years to come.
In sincere gratitude.
Barbara Czerwinski and Heidi Sproat, Applicants for NPS 10-900 Vets Hall and Rocking Stone Tower 721/2021
