Winter Carnival 2024 !!!
Come for free family fun!
Come for free family fun!
The Museum of Truckee History and the Truckee-Donner Historical Society, in cooperation with the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District, is hosting a Winter Carnival Revival on February 2-4, 2024! 1895 was Truckee's 1st Carnival. Decades of winter carnivals followed, but none have been held in decades. It's about time!
The schedule is posted here at this link - tdrpd.org/Carnival. We will be having a broad spectrum of activities available for ALL ages. We will also be hosting presentations on the history of Truckee's Winter Carnival and the iconic Truckee Movie Industry. We will also be leading historic tours through the historic downtown district and Truckee's early winter sports sites. Please plan on joining us at the various venues to participate to better understand Truckee's enticing history, and make your own snowman or sculpture.
All ten (10) events will be held in downtown Truckee or in the Truckee River Regional Park. The first event is a group photo at the Community Recreation Center on Church Street.
More details available here and updates as weather dictates activities.
In case you weren't able to attend the two Presentations Saturday morning, February 3,
Beginning of Winter Sports, or Truckee Movies, the links to the presentations are below.
Check back this week for notes to accompany the Winter Sports program.
Did you know...
* that Truckee's first Winter Carnival was originally promoted by a MONSTER Icicle erected in 1894 adjacent to the Rocking Stone? Train travelers could see this icicle from the train and wondered what in the world this was
* that more than 215 movies were filmed in or around the Truckee area?? Come find out more.
