Mary Kreitzer King left us to rejoin her late husband M.C. King on September 15, 2007. Mary, a long-time Truckee resident, moved to Reno in 2001 to reside at a retirement home.
Mary was born on Nov. 2, 1921, in Harrisburg, Penn., the daughter of Walter and Bessie Kreitzer. She met Mayborn King when he returned from World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. They were married in July of 1946.
M.C. and Mary moved to Truckee in 1949, where they built a construction company together. Mary was active in many social events n the Truckee area. She was a Cub Scout leader, an active member in the Methodist Church, the Truckee Donner Historical Society and the Truckee Senior Center.
Mary was a Charter Member of the Truckee Donner Historical Society back in 1968. She worked as a volunteer on the 1981 first edition of Fire & Ice, A Portrait of Truckee, the only book to date, created by and published by the Society. From 1981 through 2003, Mary was a regular ‘old timer’ who attended the annual TDHS Old Timers Picnic held each summer. Mary would keep herself busy assisting Laura and Dan Horman at the greeting table by helping out with name- tags and welcoming everyone who came.
Mary is survived by her son, Ed, and his wife, Jaynee; grandson, Craig, and his wife, Tasha; granddaughters Nicole and her husband Jai Parker, and Kasey King; and great-grandchildren, Alison and Audrey King, Bodie Flodman and, most recently Neela Parker, all from Fernley, Nevada.
Mary now resides beside her late husband in Truckee forever at the Truckee Cemetery. Please take a moment to reflect on your time with Mary.
