The Complete official Road Guide of the Lincoln Highway (Third Edition), 1918, published by the Lincoln Highway Association, p. 250: Truckee has the only Ice Palace in the State of California.
Thanks to our ever eagle-eye researcher Ron R., he has again unearthed articles in the California Digital Newspaper Collection, cdnc.ucr.edu, that talk about Presidential visits to Truckee.
Truman visit to Truckee
Madera Tribune, Volume 16, Number 50, 16 September 1948, p. 8, “Major Talks in Bay District”. Truman, in his only Western appearance of the 1948 presidential campaign, held open air rallies operating on a split-second schedule that saw the President make brief rear platform appearance stops on the “Truman Special” in Truckee, Colfax, and Roseville, entering California via Donner Summit. Note the importance of the railroad even in presidential campaigning.

Sausalito News, Volume 63, Number 34, 9 September 1948, p. 7; “Warren Starts Long Schedule September 15”. “Governor Earl Warren’s campaign for the vice-presidency is scheduled to start September 15 and it appears to be a rugged schedule. …”. Warren was to stop in Truckee on September 15 leaving Oakland, with a stop first in Sacramento, then in Truckee as a “platform appearance.” Again, the importance of the railroad in Truckee’s continuing national presence. “It’s all because of the railroad…”

In the University of Nevada at Reno collection of online images, Ron unearthed the following. These are just a FEW of the many images in this UNR collection.
