Truckee's Winter Carnival 2025 | HCS 3.4.2025
Even though Mother Nature had the upper hand this Winter Carnival, doesn't mean we cancelled every event. Here is a link to some photos that our own President Greg Zirbel took of the happenings on Friday evening and Saturday. A good time was had by all who attended!
If you missed the Winter Carnival 2025 Presentation on the History of the Winter Carnival, here is a link to the slideshow. The link is a low resolution pdf but it is large, so it will take some time to load (32 MB).
See tdrpd.org/carnival for more information.

History of Truckee's Winter Carnival
On Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 9 am in the Community Arts Center at 10046 Church St., Chaun O. Mortier and Heidi Sproat will be presenting a program on the History of Truckee's Winter Carnival. This will be an overview of the beginning of the Carnival in 1895 through 2025 presented in a slide-show and orated presentation. Bill McGlashan will be introducing the concept of the Carnival, and Chaun and Heidi will go into details.
Chaun Mortier has been with a Truckee resident since 1977 coming here to work with Nevada County Sheriff's Office. After retirement in 2008, boredom set in and the Historical Society called its Siren Song. Chaun has been researcher, vice-president and President and thoroughly loves Truckee's vibrant history. Chaun grew up in Dunsmuir, CA and lives full time in Truckee.
Heidi Sproat currently is and has been an active volunteer researcher with the Truckee-Donner Historical Society since 2012. She is intrigued by historical research and images of times gone by. Heidi is the current Webmaster, Image and Map Coordinator for the Society. Heidi grew up in Oakland, but now splits her time between Truckee and Frederick, Maryland.
